BESTFIT Innovative Charging Solutions
Grant Awardee
The BESTFIT Innovative Charging Solutions grant, part of the Clean Transportation Program, funds technologies that demonstrate transformative energy solutions and work to accelerate the successful deployment of EV charging across California. EVmatch will use the funding to install 120 publicly available Level 2 EV charging stations with EVmatch’s reservation-based sharing software at apartment buildings throughout Santa Clara, Los Angeles, and San Diego counties.
CALTECH ROCKET FUND
2023 Grant Awardee
Rocket Fund celebrated its 9th year by selecting nine outstanding recipients, including EVmatch, from a strong cohort of 142 applicants representing 18 states and 22 countries. Over 40 experts drawn from California utilities, DOE labs, investment groups, and Rocket Fund members contributed their expertise in identifying innovators in such diverse sectors as green industrial manufacture, carbon dioxide sequestration, green hydrogen production and refrigerant-free cold chain transportation.
Echoing Green Climate
Winner, Keeling Curve Prize
EVmatch won the prestigious Keeling Curve Prize grant award in 2020 in the Transport and Mobility category. The Keeling Curve Prize awards $25,000 to 10 projects worldwide with significant potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or promote carbon uptake. The 2020 prize attracted over 300 applications from 68 countries. The prize money supports EVmatch’s charging network expansion into underserved neighborhoods in Chicago, IL.

Eco-Entrepreneurship Venture Fellowship
Co-founders Heather Hochrein and Shannon Walker won the Eco-Entrepreneurship Venture Fellowship supported by the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management (UC Santa Barbara), enabling them to launch EVmatch as a new venture in the summer of 2016.
UCSB Technology Management Program
3rd Place, UC Santa Barbara's New Venture Competition
EVmatch competed with 35 student teams throughout an academic year for the opportunity to pitch in UC Santa Barbara’s annual New Venture Competition. EVmatch placed 3rd in the final pitch competition, winning seed funding to launch its initial product.
UC Carbon Slam
2nd Place and People's Choice
In this University of California system-wide event, previous EVmatch team member, Kelsey Johnson, presented the team's carbon reduction research in a three-minute pitch. The pitch focused on EVmatch's potential to increase electric vehicle adoption and decrease carbon emissions from California’s transportation sector.
BECI
Finalist, UC Berkeley Cleantech University Prize (Cup)
EVmatch was one of eight teams chosen from across the nation as a finalist for the Berkeley Cleantech University Prize. As a finalist, the team participated in a three-month mentorship program sponsored by the Department of Energy. They gained access to cleantech mentorship from industry experts at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, entrepreneurial training, and fabrication/prototyping spaces at UC Berkeley.
Echoing Green Climate
Fellowship
Founder and CEO, Heather Hochrein, was selected for the esteemed Echoing Green Climate Fellowship in 2018 for launching and scaling EVmatch’s peer-to-peer EV charging network. Echoing Green funds social entrepreneurs driving creative and impactful solutions to the world’s most urgent problems. The two-year fellowship provides early-stage founders with the funding, tools, and resources they need to bring their ideas to life.
Caltech Rocket Fund
Grant Awardee
EVmatch was a 2019 grant award winner from the Caltech Rocket Fund. The Rocket Fund provides non-equity grants to cleantech and sustainability startups, especially those that create value for California’s electric utility ratepayers. The Rocket Fund grant funding supported EVmatch’s development of its multi-family EV charging software services platform.
Growing Hope Challenge
Winner
EVmatch (formerly "ChargeRage") was awarded the Growing Hope Challenge for its work to increase access and expansion of renewable energy technologies in the United States. The prize was a grant benefiting the team's local UC Santa Barbara Net Impact chapter and funding to attend the 2015 Net Impact Conference in Seattle, WA.
